IT Computers & Digital Access
The Library at the Station Masters House, Birkdale offers free wifi to members.
We have a dedicated computer suite of six Windows 10 PCs that can be booked for individual hourly slots for free.
It is free to use the computers if you are a library member.
It is free to join the Library.
One computer workstation has electronic height adjustment for wheelchair users and The Station Master’s House has a lift between floors.
Important: Our computers include specialist software which resets them once a session is over. This means that data and files cannot be stored on the PC drives between restarts, but can be copied to a USB drive or SD card for you to take away before restarting the PC.
The PC workstations have the following configuration: -
• 240v power sockets with separate USB Type A charging sockets, so phones can be charged while you use the PC Ethernet network ports for internet access
• Wi-Fi is also available
• 21″ monitors
• Windows 10, Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Publisher, Access, Powerpoint)
• Edge and Chrome browsers
• Intel i5 10th gen processors, 8GB RAM and a 256GB fast SSD drive
We are offering drop-in sessions for library users, where they can learn how to get the most out of their tablets. Skills you can learn could include:
• A general overview of how to use a tablet.
• Staying in touch with family and friends and using email
• Saving photos to access anywhere and keep safe
• Taking and sending photos and videos
• Using the internet
• Reading the news, listening to music, podcasts and radio programmes, using YouTube
• Connecting to public WiFi
• Using security settings
• Using voice commands
• Online shopping
The sessions are free and will take place most Monday and Friday mornings between 10 and 1 pm.
