12 Hour Race
This unique event brings together youth sailors from all around the country to compete in Argo’s, GP14’s and the ever popular Enterprise. Held on the relatively safe waters of the Marine Lake, this popular event is always well attended.
Although you can turn up and race on the day, most teams take the opportunity to camp over the Friday night giving them a fresh start on Saturday morning. As you would expect full safety cover for the race is provided and the facilities at the club are open for all to use. The galley serves hot food and drink all day and the bar will provide something a little stronger for those not sailing!
Within the endurance race itself there are a number of other trophies to compete for such as “Fastest Lap Starting Next after 12 noon” or “Lady Helm Sailing Fastest Lap after 1600hrs”. This gives teams the chance to tailor their race strategy to suit the sailors they have.
Past years have seen the event take place in all wind strengths, from “light breeze drifters” to “hang on for dear life flyers” and it never ceases to amaze people the level of skill shown by the youth sailors in all conditions.
